During the April school holidays, South Fremantle SHS specialist music students and our mobile Solar Stage were on show at the 25th annual Fairbridge Festival. The stage operated as one of the Festival venues, providing a performance space for a wide variety of performers and acts.
Year 11 and 12 specialist music students performed at the Festival on the Sunday and impressed festival goers with their professionalism and excellent standard of their performances.
The students also participated in an industry panel discussion about how to attract and secure bookings for festivals and venues in WA.
The Year 12 band were featured in a masterclass with Festival headline act, Odette Mercy and her Soul Atomics, who took the band through their paces, focusing on aspects of their performance and culminating in a performance with members of both bands playing together.
Throughout the weekend, Year 11 student Riley Fisher sound engineered almost all of the performances on the Solar Stage, apart from a session on the Saturday night when he was given the opportunity to shadow a professional sound engineer on the Festival main stage. Many of the performers who worked with him were amazed by Riley’s skills, professional attitude and calmness, often under a great deal of pressure.
Mr Gowland, Specialist Music Program Coordinator, commented, “Riley has been a massive credit to our program and the school this weekend. I was very proud to tell people he was one of our South Fremantle SHS students”.
Well done to all students, staff and community members involved with the event!
