News from Fremantle College Principal Myles Draper
It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of Term 1! It has been an exciting term with the recruitment of staff for the new College around 70% complete. We are very proud of the way the grounds and facilities are taking shape in preparation for 2018 with the Visual Arts, Digital Media and Access Education wings all on schedule and they will be completed before the middle of the year.
The Fremantle College Advisory Group recently met and have endorsed the college Board structure for 2018. The Board will be made up of the Head Boy and Head Girl, three members of the general community, two staff from the school in addition to the Principal, and four parent representatives. We look forward to advertising these positions at the end of this year. They have also endorsed the colour and style of the new uniform, which we will be bringing out to schools next term for final consultation with students. Current students will also look forward to receiving a relocation allowance which will assist parents with the cost of moving their child from South Fremantle SHS and Hamilton SHS to the new College.
Our first meeting with the newly established leadership team of Fremantle College occurred on Wednesday 8 March. It was fantastic to meet with such a dedicated and passionate group of school leaders with the single focus of creating the best secondary college experience for your children.
The College philosophy, ensuring that every child flourishes socially and emotionally, underpins the development of our policies, procedures and relationships. Staff will have the skills to live, learn, teach and embed the values of Positive Education within all school activities and learning. We will be running parent information sessions and school tours in the second half of 2017 where we will talk about the PERMAH framework and the science of wellbeing. In the meantime, you may like to take a look at the following website and the work of Dr. Martin Seligman: https://www.authentichappiness.sas.upenn.edu/.
All students currently enrolled at South Fremantle SHS and Hamilton SHS will have their education records automatically transferred to Fremantle College. College staff have been working to ensure that every student is effectively transitioned to the new college and their individual education needs are catered for. During Term 3 and Term 4 the college will be communicating directly with parents regarding student transition.
