On Thursday 25 May, our Years 8 and 9 Specialist Baseball students travelled to Baseball Park to take on Darling Range Sports college in the first of two planned game days for Term 2.
Darling Range were missing a number of students due to interstate commitments, so after some discussion with Josh Kennelly (umpire and former South Fremantle Senior High School student and high performance baseball athlete) it was decided the day would be a great opportunity for students to experience playing in different game day roles.
Two games were played, with South Fremantle winning the first and Darling Range the second. All players competed admirably and played the game in the right spirit, with some varying highlights. Some of these included Darrell Reyes hitting a triple, Isaac Larkin-Kay’s pitching and Jack Payne making it all the way home in his first game.
A massive thanks to Baseball WA for accommodating South Fremantle in the fixture, Mr Andrew Kyle from Darling Range Sports College for organising the fixture and Josh Kennelly for both umpiring and providing some priceless in-game coaching for both sides. We look forward to the next game against Darling Range in June!
